Painted Deck Project
Have you watched one too many HGTV home shows? Did you ever get the crazy idea that you wanted to do a DIY project at your own home? Even designers’ have those moments!
I live in a lovely townhouse in the mountains of North Carolina. Our deck looks out over the Blue Ridge Mountains – a gorgeous view, everyday. The only trouble with the deck was: it was all brown, dull, dark, boring brown.
I decided to take it upon myself and transform the deck by painting a decorative rug on the floor. Here are the pictures of the work in progress:
If you look in the top right corner, you can see the new lighter color being applied.
I did manage to get the help of my wonderful husband and son to help with the process.
I am a very good finger pointer at this point!
Ok – so I am not that consistent with getting back to this, but I’ve been busy designing! Sorry 🙁
Finished Ceiling – Valspar Paint – #5002-3B Sparling Lake
My next step was to tape out an “area rug” to paint on the floor. Since the floor was wood plank, we followed the horizontal lines of the wood and blue taped the perpendicular sides so that the painted deck2 rug was approximately 8′ x 6′. We used the same Valspar paint as the ceiling.
Our next step was to add a border. More blue taping. We added Valspar #5005-8B – Sea Exposure. We also added a green – which I will give the specs on later. Here is the result:
With each step, the look changes. What to do now? How about some vertical stripes? Back to taping.
Wow – that sure made a different pattern! Now what? How about stencils? After a trip to Michael’s and buying some Martha Stewart Stencils and some tubes of acrylic paint – we start the final application.
One final thing. A small black wrought iron table, some lime green outdoor chairs and new cushions from Pier I!
That’s all for now. Quite a change from when we started! But we aren’t done yet…
Next I am going to show you my antique screen that I re-purposed as wall decor. Stay tuned.
