Where do you find your design style? Today we are bombarded with visual stimulation about anything and everything regarding “Interior Design”.
If you are one of the lucky few, you have an innate “knowing” of interior design. You simply know what your design style is and how to go about achieving it. Unfortunately, most of the population knows if they don’t like something and usually knows if they like something, but have no earthly idea of how to put your likes all together into a flowing, pleasing finished look.
For me, I love movie sets with design style. When I am watching a movie, I am looking at the set as much as I am following the story line.
I have many, many favorites, but here are three of them:
The Great Gatsby – of course I have to mention this first, since it just opened and everyone is talking about it. Who doesn’t drool over the grandeur of this home? Can you imagine a master bedroom like this? Not to mention the closet on the second level.
What about the grand staircase? I can just imagine a bride coming down them on her special day.
Then, last, but not least, Daisy’s sitting room. Fabulous.
Another, all time favorite for me, is ” Something’s Gotta Give”, with Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson. It is the ultimate, ultimate country French home, located on the Ocean.
Last, but not least, is the home in, “Housesitter”with Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn. Steve plays and architect who builds this house for his fiancé, who doesn’t want anything to do with the house or him. Goldie comes along and finds it empty and moves in. I love the movie and I love the house. It is so eclectic -but totally works.
Well, next time you want some design inspiration – try going to the movies!
